Dean's Message

One of the most gratifying aspects of my years as Dean of our law school has been my exposure to the tremendous generosity and loyalty of Villanova Law alumni. Not only does a higher percentage of our alumni give to their alma mater than is typical of law alumni elsewhere, our alumni have contributed record amounts to the law school in each of the last four years. These expressions of support not only help us achieve our goals for the law school, they energize us personally.

Much of the impetus of our increasingly successful development program has been the recognition that the law school is a growing and progressing institution. The addition of spectacular new faculty, the creation of a thriving clinical law program; a burst of creative faculty scholarship, the success of the Reuschlein Chair program, a new flourish of pro bono activity, a revitalized alumni relations program, continued enhancement of information technology, a growing appreciation of our identity as a Catholic and Augustinian institution and exciting plans for a new building have all created a new reality for Villanova Law. That new reality is something of which our alumni can be proud and to which many have been happy to lend their support.

We have also attempted to encourage alumni philanthropy by creating opportunities to channel gifts to programs or purposes for which individual graduates have a particular affinity. While we certainly still encourage giving to the Annual Fund for unrestricted purposes, we understand that many potential donors will be especially motivated to support specific goals.

In closing, I extend to you my deepest thanks for your continuing support of your alma mater.

Sincerely,

Mark A. Sargent
