Scholarships

Class Scholarship Funds

The Class Scholarship Program was initiated in the fall of 1997, with the Class of 1967 taking the lead on this effort. These endowed scholarships respond to our critical need to reduce student debt load and help Villanova Law School compete for top students. The goal of each fund is to raise a minimum of $125,000 over a period of time. The following classes have established Class Scholarships: 1959, 1962, 1964, 1966, 1967, 1968, 1969, 1971, 1973, 1975 and 1984. Please contact the Development Office if you are interested in establishing a scholarship fund for your class.

Harold Gill Reuschlein Scholarship Fund

An endowed fund providing a scholarship for the third year based on need and outstanding performance in the first and second years, in honor of Dean Emeritus Reuschlein.

Marcella Reuschlein Scholarship Fund

An endowed fund providing three-year partial tuition scholarships based on both merit and need, and in honor of Mrs. Reuschlein, long a beloved figure at the Law School. The Scholarship will be awarded to individuals who have deferred law school to raise a family, or who are raising a family while in law school.

Law School Memorial Scholarship Fund

An endowed fund providing three-year partial tuition scholarships based on both merit and need, with contributions to be accepted in honor of deceased colleagues, friends and family.

Dean’s Merit Scholarship Fund

A fund including both endowed and non-endowed components to be used to attract and retain highly qualified students and to promote the diversity of the Law School’s student body.

Law and Psychology Scholarship Fund

A fund including both endowed and non-endowed components to be used to provide scholarships for students entering the joint J.D./Ph.D. Law and Psychology Program, one of the leading law and psychology programs in the nation.

Programs

Reimel Competition Fund

The Reimel Competition remains one of the most prestigious events at VLS, and one that all competitors value highly. This elaborate, year-long competition generates considerable costs for the Law School that would be met partially by the income from an endowment.

Clinical Program Fund

Clinics offer students the opportunity to represent real clients with real legal issues. Students are exposed to the practice of law and reflect on the interactions between practice and theory and on the role of the lawyer in society. This fund will provide support for Villanova Law's five current programs: the Civil Justice Clinic, the Clinic for Asylum, Refugee and Emigrant Services (CARES); the Farmworkers Legal Aid Clinic, the Federal Tax Clinic, and the Juvenile Justice Clinic.

Villanova Law Review Fund

The cost of producing academic law reviews increases every year, and subscription revenues never cover more than a small fraction of the cost. Endowment income would be used to cover printing and related costs as well as the expenses generated by the annual law review symposium. The fund will also be used in the future to generate scholarships for Law Review editors.

Villanova Environmental Law Journal Fund

The VELJ, which covers cutting-edge issues in environmental law, needs similar endowment support for its symposium and the two issues it produces every year.

Robert P. Garbarino Sports & Entertainment Law Journal Fund

This endowed fund is named in honor of former Associate Dean Garbarino, who founded this distinctive journal. The Fund will subsidize the journal’s symposium and annual two issues.

Moot Court Board Fund

VLS has a great tradition of winning moot court teams. They bring awards and championships back to the Law School from around the country. While our students travel frugally, travel costs are always increasing, and we want our students to be able to compete in the most prestigious competitions around the country and, indeed, the world. Income from this endowed fund would enable them to do so.

Donald Giannella Memorial Lecture Fund

An endowed fund to support the Giannella Memorial Lecture series that annually brings distinguished scholars to the Law School. A lecture series of this type is needed not only to enrich the intellectual life of VLS, but to expose renowned visitors to the excellence of our faculty and students. The lecture series is named in honor of the late Professor Donald Giannella, who was one of our most beloved faculty in the 1960s and early 1970s.

Robert P. Garbarino Client Counseling Competition Fund

Named in honor of the Competition’s founder, former Associate Dean Garbarino, this fund will subsidize the travel and other costs of this annual competition.

Minority Alumni Society Book Scholarship Fund

In the spring of 2003, the Minority Alumni Society Leadership Board, in conjunction with the Law School Administration, established the Minority Alumni Society Book Scholarship Fund. The purpose of this scholarship is to help defray the cost of a minority student's legal education beyond the cost of tuition.

Naming Opportunities

VLS is always happy to recognize the exceptional generosity of alumni and friends through appropriate naming opportunities. We have for example, several named endowed scholarships, as well as named classes, offices and library space. Specific programs, such as some of the programs in this brochure, our Faculty Workshop Series, and individual courses and seminars are also available for naming. If you are interested in any of these opportunities, please contact Samuel T. McClure, Associate Dean for Development & Alumni Affairs [Phone: (610) 519-7019]

If you have any questions regarding the funds listed above, or would like more information on naming opportunities, please e-mail the Development Office at giving@law.villanova.edu.
