Career Advising

In an ever-changing legal marketplace, your career deserves individualized attention. Accordingly, our professional staff of experienced attorney-advisors provides "one-on-one" career advising to students and alumni.

Our attorney-advisors have extensive legal practice experience in a wide variety of specialties in large and small firms, government, public interest, and the judiciary (see their biographies for more information). Each member of our professional staff also has considerable training and experience in counseling, mentoring, and hiring law students and practicing attorneys.

Individual career advising with one of our professionals can range from initial issues like education about the legal profession generally, to guidance during career self-assessment, to job changes throughout your career. In addition, our professional advisors can help you identify your strongest skills and personal values, as well as areas for continued professional development. Our attorney-advisors also evaluate cover letters and resumes, as well as techniques in interviewing and networking. Finally, our staff of attorneys can give you important insights about the legal employment market, trends in the legal industry, and how such information may impact your career goals.

For a "quick question" (i.e., 5-10 minutes), simply drop by the front desk at Career Strategy & Advancement Office to see the "on call" advisor,or contact any of our attorney-advisors directly.

An appointment may be best to properly discuss particular questions or issue. To make an appointment (usually 30 minutes), simply come to the front desk at Career Strategy and complete a short "intake" memo. Or, contact one of our attorney-advisors directly. One of our professionals will schedule an appointment time with you as promptly as possible.

For a straightforward resume or cover letter "critique," come to the front desk at Career Strategy and complete the short "intake" memo. Or, contact one of our attorney-advisors directly. You will be notified when your marked up letter or resume is ready for pick up (or, that a brief meeting is best to review our recommendations).

As lawyers should be, we strive to respond to your needs very quickly. Usually we can schedule your appointment or return your "critiqued" resume within days of your request. Sometimes, however, high demand for professional advising and evaluation services and other programming commitments can make immediate appointments or resume evaluations impossible. Please help us to provide you with professional service of the highest quality by planning with this in mind.
