Finding Pro Bono

Villanova Law hosts a number of exciting pro bono programs. These and other programs, which are being developed, offer tremendous opportunities to serve those in need, while developing your own lawyering skills.

How can you get involved in Villanova pro bono programs?

Think about what interests you.

Consider your academic, personal and community service interests. Is there any area of law that intrigues you? Is there are specific group of people - children, the elderly, people with physical disabilities - with whom you are particularly interested in working? Was there any project that you are worked on in high school or college that you particularly enjoyed? What was it about that project that you valued?

See if there is any organization that is doing the kind of work you think you may want to do. That organization may be at Villanova or in the Philadelphia area. Check out the resources on the Career Strategy website and the links to PSLawNet. PSLawNet, a database of pro bono and public interest / public service opportunities linked to the Career Strategy website and available on the Internet, contains extensive information about volunteer projects and resources for getting involved.

Speak with the Law School's Director of Public Service Careers & Pro Bono Programs. The Director can discuss with you the variety of programs that exist at Villanova and in the Philadelphia area. If there is no organization doing the work you want to do, the director may be able to help you create a new program. Lawyering Together began as a student initiative; you may have the idea for another new pro bono program.
