2004-2005 Financial Aid
Study Abroad
Villanova Law School students wishing to participate in a study abroad program need to first contact the Associate Dean for Academic Affairs for approval. If financial aid is needed to fund this program, you will have to complete the following
Study Abroad Information Form and return it to the Office of Financial Aid so that a consortium agreement between the two institutions can be prepared. All financial aid for Villanova Law School students is processed through the Villanova Law School Financial Aid Office. The summer costs will be determined by the host institution while the costs for fall and spring will be based on Villanova Law School’s costs.
For students enrolled in a study abroad program who wish to borrow through the Subsidized and Unsubsidized Federal Stafford Loan Program, your loan term will run for summer, fall and spring and funds will be disbursed to you in three equal disbursements. The disbursements are equal although your costs for your summer abroad program will probably be less than your fall or spring semesters. Thus it is your responsibility to make sure you spend no more for the summer session than is allowed by your budget, which you can see on your Novasis account.
Under most circumstances, we can request the summer disbursement of your Subsidized and Unsubsidized Federal Stafford Loan to come by check, made payable only to you, and sent directly to you. These checks may be requested approximately 30 days before the first day of classes. It is then your responsibility to pay the host institution for the appropriate costs for your study abroad program.
If, however, the lender is unable to accommodate this request, your summer disbursement will probably come by EFT. Unfortunately we can only request this disbursement 13 days before the first day of classes and we cannot credit any funds to your account earlier than 10 days before the first day of classes. Thus you must be prepared to cover all costs until the loan funds are received and refunded to you. When funds come by EFT they have to be first credited to your account and then a refund is made to you. Your refund can either be direct deposited into your personal bank account if you have enrolled for this service or a check can be mailed to you.
Your fall and spring disbursements of your Federal Stafford Loans will be disbursed as usual and your refunds will also be handled in the usual manner (see
Disbursement Info).
