Where can I learn more about the new GroupWise?

Go to http://www.novell.com/products/GroupWise/ and click on GroupWise 6.5 overview and interactive flash demo, if prompted, download the plug-in.  It is highly recommended to click the "Skip Intro".

Can I use the old GroupWise to send mail?

Please do not use the old GroupWise to send an e-mail to people on the new GroupWise system. Doing so will cause a problem. All replies to that e-mail will be sent to your old account.   If you need to send e-mail from the old GroupWise system, DO NO USE THE ADDRESS BOOK, type the address, i.e. JDoe@law.villanova.edu. If you use the address book it will go to JDoe@old.law.villanova.edu.

Why are there non-junk mail in the junk mail folder?

When we first started the new server there was a rule that sent all E-mail from off campus to the Junk folder. This rule was changed by 1:30pm on Thursday.

How do I create folders?

To create a folder:

  1. In the Folder List, click File > New > Folder.

  2. To create a folder that only you can access, make sure Personal Folder is selected > click Next.
Type the name and description for the new folder.

  3. Click Up, Down, Right, or Left to position the folder where you want it in the Folder List > click Next.

  4. Click Finish. Skip the rest of the steps.

How do I move my address book?

From Prof. Maule:

My guess is that a lot of folks will want to do this. It is easy with one warning. Before exporting frequent contacts, DELETE ALL THE ENTRIES THAT ARE TO old.villanova.law.edu, else it will bring over addresses that no longer will be worthwhile.

Instructions:

Before you begin, check the address book for any reference to addresses with (user name)@old.villanova.edu or any addresses with inet:.

In OLD client, open address book. Go to the tab for any book OTHER than the GroupWise books. Click on File, click on Export, click on entire book, then browse to the X: drive and save with a name like oldaddrbook1.NAB.

Do the same thing for any other tabs OTHER than the GroupWise books. Use a name such as oldaddrbook2.NAB. (each tab is treated as a separate book).

Then open the NEW client, and open address book. Click on File, click on import, browse to the X: drive and select one of the NAB files. Then do this again (click on file, click on import, etc) for however many other books were exported.

There probably will be two books... the tab with the user's own name, and the Frequent Contacts tab.

Feel free to share these instructions.

Jim

How do I get the email messages from the old system to the new system?

From the old email, right click a message and select forward and USE your full address Doe@law.villanova.edu, DO NOT use the address or auto complete because message will go back to your old account.

I clicked on the new GroupWise icon but it looks just like the old GroupWise?

Only one instance of GroupWise can be open at a time. Either the new or the old GroupWise can be open. If you have GroupWise notify running, the little GroupWise icon by the clock, right click it and select exit. After closing notify, click on the GroupWise icon you wish to open.
