Mark A. Sargent has been Dean of the Villanova University School of Law since 1997, where he is also Co-Editor-in-Chief of the
Villanova Journal of Law and Investment Management. He was formerly Piper & Marbury Professor of Law, Associate Dean for Academic Affairs, Faculty Editor of
The Business Lawyer, and Director of the Law and Entrepreneurship program at the University of Maryland School of Law. A graduate of Cornell Law School and Wesleyan University, Professor Sargent has also taught at the law schools of Southern Methodist University, American University, and the University of Baltimore. He teaches courses in business organizations, securities regulation and the law of investment management. Prior to entering law teaching, he practiced corporate and securities law with the Boston law firm of Csaplar &
Bok.
Professor Sargent has published extensively in the areas of corporate law, federal and state securities regulation, and mergers and acquisitions. In addition to writing and teaching in these areas, he has been deeply involved in legislative drafting and administrative rulemaking, and has served frequently as an administrating hearing officer, an arbitrator and an expert witness in securities and corporate matters. He currently is a member of the National Adjudicatory Council of NASD Regulation, Inc.
