Professor Dowd received his law degree from Harvard Law School. Following law school, he was awarded a Fulbright Scholarship to the University of Rome in history and international law. Prior to joining the Villanova faculty in 1961, he practiced at the law firm of Casey, Lane and Mittendorf in New York City. Professor Dowd also was a visiting professor at the University of Nottingham in England.
