David Yellen, Professor of Law, and former Dean at Hofstra University School of Law joins the faculty for the 2004-05 academic year as the Harold Gill Reuschlein Distinguished Visiting Professor. Dean Yellen received B.A. from Princeton University and his J.D. from Cornell University School of Law. His scholarly interests focus on sentencing reform, white collar crime and juvenile justice. He is co-author of a leading treatise on federal sentencing law, and has written articles about sentencing that have appeared in such journals as the
Northwestern Law Review, Southern California Law Review, and
Minnesota Law Review. Dean Yellen frequently lectures to federal judges about the federal sentencing guidelines, and has testified before the United States Sentencing Commission. He advised President Clinton’s transition team on white-collar crime issues. He also has been active in providing pro bono legal representation to indigent defendants, including before the United States Supreme Court.
Before joining the Hofstra faculty, Dean Yellen was staff counsel to the Judiciary Committee of the United States House of Representatives. He also served as a law clerk to Judge Arlen C. Beam of United States District Court for the District of Nebraska, and practiced civil and criminal litigation with a Washington, D.C. law firm.
Dean Yellen will teach Children and the Law, Criminal Procedure, and Corporate and White Collar Crime.
