Circulation
The Circulation Desk is the first point of contact for anyone entering the
Law Library. It is staffed during the hours that the Library is open and can be
reached by telephone at (610) 519-7020. Behind the Circulation Desk is the Reserve collection, which
includes Class Reserve and Permanent Reserve.
Borrowing Books
The Library’s collection is available to Library patrons for
"in-library" research.
All current law students, faculty and staff and Villanova University faculty
and staff may borrow materials from Villanova University Law Library. The Law
Library is mainly a research library and most items do not circulate.
Materials should be checked out before leaving the Law Library.
Reserve Collection Borrowing
Reserve materials may be accessed by all Library patrons. Villanova Law
School students, faculty and staff need their ID cards for the Circulation staff
to loan requested material.
Non-Villanova law patrons need to supply their current driver’s license or
a student ID from their school. This is held by Circulation until the Reserve
material is returned.
Returning Books
Books should be returned by dropping them in the book slot at the Circulation
Desk or leaving them on top of the Circulation counter.
Recalls/Renewals
Books can be recalled before the due date from a patron who has material
checked out. Notify staff at the Circulation Desk by giving the author, title
and call number of the desired item.
Circulation will notify the current patron and retrieve the book. The
requesting patron will be notified by e-mail or telephone that the book is being
held for him at Circulation. Circulation does not share with patrons the
circulation information about a book.
Any patron may renew his book(s) a maximum of two times. This can be done in
person at the Circulation Desk or by telephone through the Circulation Desk at
(610) 519-7020. The patron may renew books within a week of their due dates.
Missing Materials
Circulation will search for any item that cannot be found by a patron in its
proper location or is checked out. The staff searches for missing items three
times. If they are, the patron is notified.
Student Employment
There are approximately 22 law student employees hired to work at the
Circulation Desk during the school year during evening and weekend hours. For
more information, contact Mary Cornelius, (610) 519-7189.
Loan Periods
Reserve Materials - one day; during exams and high-demand periods - two hours.
Treatises - 28 days for those qualified to borrow books.
