Current Index to Legal Periodicals (SmartCILP)

The Law Library is a subscriber to SmartCILP, an electronic version of the Current Index to Legal Periodicals, a valuable current awareness tool for researchers seeking to remain apprised of the law review literature in their areas of research and teaching. SmartCILP is a weekly electronic law review citation service that provides automated personalized e-mail delivery of CILP. After setting up a SmartCILP profile, subscribers receive an e-mail message each week that focuses only on the subject headings and journals they selected. This e-mail message is clearly marked as "SmartCILP" to allow easy identification and review of results. SmartCILP profiles can be changed each week, allowing subscribers to tailor the delivery of CILP to their changing research needs. The latest eight weeks of CILP are also searchable on Westlaw.

To subscribe, go to the SmartCILP website at the University of Washington Law Library. Click on the link that reads "Create or change a SmartCILP profile (with proper authorization code only)." Fill out the requested fields: Your name (last name, first name); and your full email address (your username@law.villanova.edu). The institution is Villanova Law Library; contact Naz Pantaloni to obtain the account code. Then check off the subject headings that interest you. You also have the option of selecting certain journals from the list of titles indexed by CILP. It's very easy to register, but feel free to contact Naz Pantaloni if you have any problems or questions.

Journal/Periodical Routing

You may have journals, periodicals and legal newspapers routed to you as they are received by the Law Library. If you know which periodicals you would like to have routed to you, simply contact Steve Elkins or Naz Pantaloni to have your name added to the routing list for a periodical. If you would like help in identifying publications that address your research interests, please contact Naz Pantaloni or one of the Reference Librarians.

Table of Contents Routing

Approximately every two weeks, the Law Library routes three copies of the table of contents for recently received law journals and serials to Room 28, Room 214, and the Clinic. To request the complete issue of a journal or a photocopy of a particular article, contact Mary Cornelius or any of the other Reference Librarians.

Monthly Acquisitions List

The Law Library’s monthly acquisitions list of new books, treatises and government publications is emailed to every member of the faculty as a Microsoft Word-formatted attachment. A request sheet with item numbers is included on the last page of the list of new acquisitions. You may print this page, circle your selections, and return it to Regina Kozul. You may also email your selection numbers to Regina Kozul. The monthly acquisitions can also be reviewed from the Law Library’s online catalog. Select "New Acquisitions List" on the main menu of the Law Library catalog. A link to the catalog can be found on the Law Library’s homepage. If you would like to receive your copy of the acquisitions list in print, please contact Margaret Duffy.

BNA’s United States Law Week (USLW) & Criminal Law Reporter

The law library routes copies of United States Law Week (either the case summaries or the combined Supreme Court and General sections) as well as BNA’s Criminal Law Reporter to those who request a copy. To be placed on a routing list for any of these publications, please contact Naz Pantaloni or Steve Elkins.

Lexis (Eclipse) and Westlaw (Westclip)

Both Lexis and Westlaw allow researchers to save queries to be run automatically on a regular schedule. For help in establishing Lexis "Eclipse" or Westlaw "Westclip" searches, contact Yolanda Jones or one of the Reference Librarians. Additional web services such as Lexis One and Instacase can provide notices of new cases in various subject areas. Contact Yolanda Jones if you would like to subscribe to one of these services.

Bibliographies

The Law Library frequently prepares bibliographies of the works of scholars in law and other disciplines upon request. These are typically undertaken for various law school committees, in order to evaluate faculty candidates, or to identify possible guest speakers and Reuschlein Chairs, but they can be done as part of a routine research request. To request a bibliography, please contact Naz Pantaloni. Because they can be very time-consuming, especially for an established scholar, please allow adequate time to complete your request, and indicate whether you would like a word-processed bibliography or printouts of citations retrieved from databases.

Social Science Research Network (SSRN) - Visit their website at http://www.ssrn.com.

The School of Law is a contributing member of the Legal Scholarship Network (LSN) of SSRN, a Web-based database of abstracts and full-text published and forthcoming scholarly articles in law, business, and the social sciences. A link to SSRN can be found on the law library’s homepage, under the "Search Databases" link. For questions about SSRN, please contact Naz Pantaloni, Lynne Maxwell, or one of the Reference Librarians.

Chronicle of Higher Education

News articles from the weekly issues of the Chronicle can be sent to your email address. To subscribe, contact Yolanda Jones.
