Services
Lexis
Lexis and Westlaw are two of the major legal database vendors in the United
States. Training is done by both Lexis and Westlaw representatives, as
well as by law librarians. These pages have information about student hours, training sessions, obtaining
passwords, registering passwords, extending passwords for summer use, and services from
Lexis and Westlaw available to students after graduation.
Need Help?
If a reference librarian is not available, Lexis has a 24/7 help line at
1-800-45-Lexis. Lexis also has live chat assistance available at http://support.lexisnexis.com/lawschool/.
You will need your password to obtain assistance.
Passwords
- Obtaining passwords - Members of the Villanova Law School community
are eligible to receive a Lexis password. 1Ls are distributed
passwords as part of the Legal Research Course. Others new to
Villanova Law should contact Yolanda
Jones.
- Registering passwords - You should register your password as soon
as possible. To register, go to http://web.lexis.com/lawschoolreg/.

- Extending passwords for summer use - Under certain circumstances,
you can request
for your Lexis password to be activated during the summer months.
Eligible activities are:
- Summer law school classes
- Law Review and Journal work
- Project for a professor
- Moot Court
- Non-profit work IS eligible!
- Services available after graduation -
- Register for graduate 3L full access until the August after graduation
at http://lawschool.lexis.com
(or contact Yolanda Jones).
- If you do not register for full access, restricted access (career and
job search materials), continues until about the July after graduation.
Lexis Tip
Save and print your session History. You can then account for
your time and track your progress. The Lexis session History (upper right
of the screen) is kept only until 2:00 am the next day, so be sure to click on
History, and then "File > Save as" when you are done with your
session.
