Academic Symposium

On September 13, 2003, Villanova University School of Law will celebrate fifty years of remarkable achievement in the law. On that date in 1953, Villanova's first students began classes in Falvey Library on the main campus of the University. In the fifty years that followed, Villanova graduates and faculty contributed significantly to the development of law in an era of unprecedented change in both our society and our legal institutions. Little is certain about the next fifty years beyond the likelihood of accelerated and sometimes bewildering change. The faculty of Villanova Law will gather on September 13 to present a series of panel discussions on the possible dimensions of the next fifty years in the law.

The panels will include considerations of topics as broad as the future of the legal profession, the influence of information technology, and the future of privacy, and as specific as the future of bankruptcy law, corporate governance and environmental law. The presenters will extrapolate from current trends to identify and analyze the issues that practitioners are likely to encounter in the years to come. They will also offer their prescriptions for how the directions of change can be influenced for the better. Different panels will be offered concurrently, so those attending will be able to find a topic of interest in every time period of the symposium.

All presenters are members of the faculty or academic administration of Villanova University School of Law.

These programs have been approved by the Pennsylvania Continuing Legal Education Board.

The Academic Symposium will take place the morning of September 13, 2003, at Villanova University School of Law (299 N. Spring Mill Road, Villanova, PA 19085). This event is open to all members of the law community.

A fee of $25.00 will be payable at the door. Please make checks payable to “Villanova University School of Law”. Credit card payment will also be accepted (Visa, Mastercard and Discover only).
